September 13, 2005 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Colorado Mammoth News Release
DENVER - The National Lacrosse League season will open with a marquee matchup at Pepsi Center, the league announced Tuesday. After a 15-year, Hall of Fame playing career, Gary Gait will make his NLL coaching debut at home when the Colorado Mammoth hosts the Philadelphia Wings at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 30. The Wings-Mammoth game is the sole game that weekend, with the rest of the league in play the first weekend in January.
"This is going to be a great way to kick off a new season of lacrosse," Mammoth general manager Steve Govett said. "We have a great rivalry with the Wings and this game will really set the tone for what promises to be a fantastic NLL season."
The Mammoth, which opens the season with three consecutive home games, hosts another East Division opponent, the Rochester Knighthawks, in Week 2. Other highlights of the schedule include two home games against West Division foe San Jose, three matchups with the defending West Division champion Arizona Sting and what will likely be a critical and intense home-and-home series against Calgary on the season's final weekend.
The 2006 NLL All-Star Game weekend at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto will include the inaugural NLL Hall of Fame Game, featuring the defending NLL champion Toronto Rock hosting the Philadelphia Wings on Friday, Feb. 24. The All-Star Game will be played the next afternoon on Saturday, Feb. 25. The inaugural Hall of Fame class, including both Gary and Paul Gait, will be inducted during the weekend.
The NLL regular-season schedule consists of 88 games, to be played over 16 weekends. Each of the league's 11 teams will play 16 regular-season games, eight home and eight away. The regular season concludes on April 15, with the Champion's Cup Playoffs to follow.
The Mammoth finished third in the West Division last season and qualified for the playoffs for the third consecutive year. The team ranked second in league-wide attendance, averaging 17,035 fans per home game.
Single-game tickets start at $5 and will go on sale in early December. Season tickets start at $62 and are on sale now. Call 303.405.1101 or visit ColoradoMammoth.com to order.
