Colorado Mammoth News Release
DENVER - Six days ago, the Colorado Mammoth stole a win from the Calgary Roughnecks at Scotiabank Saddledome in Alberta. On Friday night, the Roughnecks got their revenge, beating the Mammoth, 19-12, on HealthONE Field at Pepsi Center.
"It's tough to find a positive after tonight," said Colorado captain Gavin Prout, whose first of two goals he scored on Friday was the 200th of his Mammoth career.
A week after Roughnecks forward Shawn Evans' four-goal, three-assist performance was outshined by NLL Offensive Player of the Week John Grant Jr.'s six goals and two helpers, the 26-year-old answered back. Evans finished with 13 points (4g, 9a), 10 of which came before halftime, to set a new franchise single-game points record.
Mammoth forward Sean Pollock, who netted the overtime game-winner last Saturday, scored on the power-play 34 seconds into Friday's contest, giving Colorado its first lead in regulation this season. Goals by Jamie Lincoln and Mat MacLeod quickly made it 3-0, but Calgary was fast to respond. The Roughnecks would score seven of the next eight to finish the 1st quarter with a 7-4 cushion...and they never looked back.
"We were up 3-0, but as soon as they came back and got a couple goals, we didn't get the ball as much," said Colorado's Adam Jones, who finished with two goals and three assists. "It deflated us a little bit."
So too did Calgary's two short-handed goals in the first 90 seconds of the 3rd quarter to extend the lead to 13-6.
The Mammoth and Roughnecks are both 1-2, and have split the season series to date. Colorado's next game is at home against the Minnesota Swarm on Saturday, February 2 on Lacrosse Out Cancer Night. Single-game tickets start at just $10 and are on sale now at the Pepsi Center box office, all Colorado Dick's Sporting Goods retail kiosks, online at TicketHorse.com, or by calling 303.53.HORSE.
