Quad City Mallards News Release

Moline, IL-The Mallards needed late heroics from rookie Mike Kompon but escaped with a 2-1 shootout win over Motor City on Friday night at The MARK. The win gives the Mallards a 5-0-1 record at The MARK and the team improves to 7-1-1 in their last nine.

After two scoreless periods, the teams exchanged third period goals. Brad Cruikshank scored the game's first marker with 6:59 gone in the third.

Mike Kompon scored a dramatic second professional goal as he beat Rod Branch on a rebound with just 3:31 left in the game. Kompon's goal tied the game in the closing minutes reminiscent of his first pro goal last month in Flint.

Mallards goaltender Jeff Reynaert stopped 19 of 20 Motor City shots before leaving the game with five seconds left. Reynaert wasn't feeling well and was replaced by Robert Gherson who did not make a regulation save before stopping four of five shooters in the shootout.

Kompon would repeat his heroics as he scored in the first round of the shootout. After Motor City's Joe Burton evened the shootout at one, Greg Barber scored the winning shootout goal for the Mallards in the fifth round. Barber deciding marker came in front of a crowd of 3,618.
