Rockford IceHogs News Release
Robinson turns away 30 shots in UHL showdown
Rockford, Ill.- The top two teams in the United Hockey League tangled at the Rockford MetroCentre Friday night and it was a rookie whole stole the show as the Rockford IceHogs topped the Muskegon Fury 3-1 in front of 3,352 fans. Rookie center Miguel Lafleche scored all three of Rockford's goals, and Michel Robinson stopped 30 Fury shots in the winning effort.
Lafleche began the scoring at 17:35 of the first period set up nicely by defenseman Nathan Lutz. Lutz fed Lafleche in the front and he shelved his second goal of the season over Muskegon goalie Brent Belecki. The game would end up tied after defenseman Kevin Haupt fired home a Muskegon power play goal 4:26 into the second period.
The tied contest was short lived however, because just 1:23 later, Lafleche blew home his second marker of the game. Both teams tighten things up again and Rockford didn't put the game away until the 19:15 mark when Muskegon pulled Belecki while skating 4-on-4. Hogs winger J.F. Dufour fed Lafleche for the hat trick after the rookie won a face-off deep in the Rockford zone. Lafleche buried the goal at 19:15 to seal the game for the Hogs.
Rockford only had to kill off three Muskegon power plays, and the Fury finished 1-3 on the night. Rockford was 0-4 on the man advantage, but picked up their 10 win of the season, the first team in the UHL to reach double digit wins. Dufour and Lutz both chipped in two-assists in the winning effort.
Upcoming Home Games: Saturday, November 20 vs. Quad City Mallards. The Hogs rivals return to the MetroCentre for a Western Division showdown. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. and the first 1,000 kids 12-and under will receive a full-length hockey stick courtesy of Lonnies Carpet Max, 23WIFR and WXRX, 104.9 FM. For tickets call (815) 968-5222.
