Mallards Ink Skilled Winger

Moline, IL-Quad City Mallards President and General Manager Howard Cornfield today announced the signing of second-year right winger Jonathan Gagnon. Gagnon spent his rookie season in the ECHL with the Augusta Lynx.

In 2003-04, Gagnon finished second on the Augusta roster in goals with 21. He was fourth amongst Lynx players in points with 40. Gagnon recorded a 12-game point streak during his rookie campaign. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound winger scored a point in every game from January 2nd-February 13th. During the streak, Gagnon scored 11 goals and added eight assists for 19 points. During the second half of the 2003-04 season, Gagnon scored 28 points (16 goals and 12 assists) in 29 games.

Before turning pro, Gagnon spent four seasons with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). During his last season in the QMJHL, Gagnon finished second in the league scoring race with 115 points while also accumulating 172 penalty minutes. He also finished second in the league in goals with 52.

"Jonathan was one of the top players coming out of junior in 2003," said Cornfield. "He plays hard every night and has a nose for the net. We are expecting a lot out of him this year."

Gagnon is the 16th Mallard signed for the 2004-05 season. Gagnon will join Mike Burgoyne, Jason Deskins, Jeff Doyle, Joe Dusbabek, Ojay Hehr, Lenny Hofmann, Jason Lehoux, Drew Otten and Marty Standish to form the Mallards forward corp. Justin Brown, Serge Crochetiere, Terry Hollinger, Alexander Skorohod and Sam Phillips will patrol the Mallards blueline while Jeff Reynaert tends goal.

The Mallards are hosting a Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday night at The MARK. The meeting begins with Pick-A-Seat for new season ticket holders at 6:30 p.m. with the formal meeting to follow at 7:00 p.m.
