Mallards Break Loose in Second, Down Gems 4-1

DAYTON, Ohio (April 7, 2010) - Jerad Kaufmann made 41 saves and Brandon Marino scored one goal and assisted on two others as the Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, broke the game open with four second period goals on the way to a 4-1 win over the host Dayton Gems Wednesday night.

After a scoreless first period the Mallards took control of the contest by scoring three times in two minutes and 49 seconds early in the second period. Jacques Perreault swept the opening goal home just 44 seconds into the period. Quad City would stretch the lead to 3-0 when Addison DeBoer and Obi Aduba scored just 14 seconds apart. Rookie DeBoer scored his first career goal from point blank range at 3:19; at 3:33 Obi Aduba buried Marino's goalmouth feed.

The Gems would get on the scoreboard for the first time when Jonathan Ornelas scored from the slot midway through the second. The Mallards, however, would would reestablish the three goal lead- for good as it would prove- when Marino scored from the side of the net at 14:01 of the second.

The Mallards are next in action on home ice tomorrow night against the Bloomington PrairieThunder at 7:05 P.M.
