Mallards Announce Schedule
July 26, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. - The Quad City Mallards in conjunction with the Central Hockey League today announced a 66-game 2013-14 schedule that will see the Mallards open their fourth CHL regular season on Saturday, October 19 on home ice at 7:05 p.m. against the Rapid City Rush and go on to play six of their first seven games at home.
The Mallards' 33-game home slate is weighted heavily toward fan-friendly weekend dates. Twenty-four of the Mallards' home games will be played on Fridays (11) and Saturdays (13). Each of the Mallards' two Sunday home games will face off at 4:05 p.m., while all other home contests will begin at 7:05 p.m.
While the CHL will again this season forgo a geographical split into conferences, the league schedule remains unbalanced. The top eight finishers in the ten-team circuit will qualify for the Presidents' Cup playoffs. The Mallards are likely to quickly establish rivalries with the league's two expansion teams- the Brampton Beast and the St. Charles Chill. The Mallards will collide with the Chill 14 times and will take on the Beast on 13 occasions. The Mallards' already heated rivalry with the Missouri Mavericks will no doubt grow in intensity as the teams clash ten times this season. The Mallards will tussle with the Denver Cutthroats seven times, joust with the Rush six times, scrap with the Arizona Sundogs five times, square off with the Allen Americans and Tulsa Oilers four times each and duel with the Wichita Thunder three times.
The Mallards' second game of the campaign- on Saturday night, October 26- will mark the Chill's first ever visit to the Quad Cities and will also kick off a stretch of three straight games between the two clubs. The following afternoon, the Mallards will visit the Chill for the first time before the teams reunite for another clash at the i wireless Center on Friday, November 1. The night after that match-up, the Mallards will take the ice at home for their first ever meeting with Brampton.
The Mallards will take their longest road trip of the season between November 15 and November 27. The six-game, 13-day sojourn will take the Mallards to Denver for a pair of games and on to Arizona for a trio of contests before the Flock wraps up the trip in Missouri. The November 27 date will be the Mallards' first with the Mavericks, who will invade the Quad Cities for the first time on Sunday, December 8.
The Mallards will close out their pre-Christmas slate with a home-and-home series against St. Charles. The Mallards will host the Chill on Saturday, December 21 before heading to St. Charles for a rematch the following afternoon.
The Mallards will return from the league's brief holiday break to make their first ever trip to Brampton. The Flock will confront the Beast north of the border on Friday, December 27; Saturday, December 28; and Monday, December 30. Just under a month later, coach Terry Ruskowski's club will return to Brampton for the second and final time during the regular season for three more games: Thursday, January 23; Friday, January 24; and Sunday, January 26.
The Mallards will meet the defending CHL President's Cup champion Allen Americans for the first time when the Americans head to Moline for games on Wednesday, February 5 and Friday, February 7. The Mallards will not make their first visit of the season to the Lone Star State until Sunday, February 23. That match-up with the Americans will conclude the only three-day stretch all season during which the Mallards will play three road games in three cities- the Flock will play in Tulsa on February 21 and in Wichita on February 22.
The Mallards will enjoy their longest homestand of the campaign just as they hit the stretch run of the season. Between February 26 and March 12, the Mallards will play seven straight games at the i wireless Center against Missouri (twice), Brampton (twice), Arizona (twice) and Denver (once).
In the wake of that marathon homestand, the Mallards will play their eight of their final 11 regular season games and four of their finals five contests on the road. The Flock will return home for its regular season finale on Sunday, March 30 against the Mavericks.
Other schedule highlights include:
- For the second straight season, the Mallards this year will play every other team in the league at least once at home and on the road.
- The Mallards will be at their busiest as the regular season winds to a close. Quad City will play 11 times in the final 17 days of the campaign.
- March will see the Mallards play 16 games, making it their busiest month of the season. The Flock will play 14 games in February, 12 in December, 11 in November, ten in January and three in October.
- The Mallards will play three games in three nights on seven occasions (including five times in February and March): December 6, 7 and 8; December 20, 21 and 22; February 7, 8 and 9; Febuary 14, 15 and 16; February 21, 22 and 23; March 21, 22 and 23; and March 28, 29 and 30.
- The Flock will play its first game of 2014 on Friday, January 3 against the Chill on home ice.
- While the Mallards will be idle on Thanksgiving Day, they will be busy just before and after the holiday. The Flock will visit Missouri on Wednesday, November 27 before returning home to lock horns with St. Charles on Black Friday- November 29- and Tulsa on Saturday, November 30.
- The Mallards this season are also slated to take the ice on St. Patrick's Day for the fourth year in a row. The Mallards will try to spoil the party in Rapid City when they arrive to battle the Rush on Monday, March 17.
