Majors Try To Focus On The Present

Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
Mississauga, ON - It will be tough for the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors to take it "one game at a time" this weekend. After all, they've already clinched a playoff berth and have a pretty good idea who they'll be facing, with only this weekend of games standing in their way. However, they're going to have to focus on the present if they want to avoid sliding in the standings and developing bad habits before crunch time.
Mississauga has picked up points in their last five games with wins over Ottawa, Oshawa and Peterborough, an overtime loss to Kingston and a shootout loss to Belleville. That has helped them jump back up into the Eastern Conference's 5th seed (64 points), two points ahead of Barrie and three points ahead of Ottawa.
Tomorrow night, the Majors will host the Niagara IceDogs for the fourth, and final time this season. They'll be looking for their first win over their Central Division rivals at the Hershey Centre this season after the two clubs switched addresses in the summer. Niagara has won the previous three games by 10-2, 6-2 and 2-1 scores.
This game is even more intriguing in that it's a potential 1st round playoff match-up, with the IceDogs possessing the 4th seed. If the playoffs started today, these rivals would be staring across the ice at each other.
It will also be Fan Appreciation Day tomorrow night. There will be a number of Tim Horton's prizes handed out to fans and an autograph session in the KidsZone featuring the entire team right after the game, so don't miss it!
Then, on Saturday night, the Majors will visit the Barrie Colts at 7:30 p.m. This will be a very big game if the Majors fall to Niagara and the Colts win in Brampton tomorrow night as these clubs will be tied in the standings with 64 points apiece. Also, in their most recent trip to Barrie, on February 23, the Majors were defeated 4-1 despite outshooting the Colts 37-34. So, they'll be looking for revenge on Saturday.
Finally, the Majors finish off the regular season by visiting the Oshawa Generals on Sunday evening at 6:05 p.m. This game comes hot on the heels of Mississauga's big 10-9 victory in Oshawa last week. And, this is another potential 1st round playoff match-up for the Majors, if they happen to get passed by Barrie this weekend.
The drama is starting to build; are you ready to jump on the Majors bandwagon?
