Majors Fight To Stay Alive

Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors will be fighting for their season when they host the Niagara IceDogs in game #4 of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series tomorrow night. With their 5-0 win in St. Catharines last night, the IceDogs have built up a 3-0 lead, with only one more victory needed to advance to the next round. Tomorrow's puck drop will take place at 7 p.m.

It hasn't been for a lack of trying that has caused the Majors to fall into this hole; they've only been outshot 98-95 through three games. However, Mississauga has been struggling to find the back of the net as they've been outscored 12-1. Also, Niagara netminder Sebastian Dahm appears to have regained the form that helped propel the underdog Sudbury Wolves to the OHL finals last year.

The Majors special teams have also been a thorn in their side. Of the IceDogs 12 goals, 6 have come on the power-play and 2 were shorthanded.

To the Majors credit, they're a young squad that has battled hard all season long, despite the departures of veteran forwards such as Jason Cassidy, Matt Piva and Kris Sparre. They only suffered four consecutive losses on two occasions this year, with the last string coming in early January.

The likes of Casey Cizikas, Kaspars Daugavins, Jesse Messier and Mike Pelech have enjoyed quality scoring chances in this series but have been snakebitten thus far. Also, fellow forwards Brett Flemming, Kyle Neuber, Zac Rinaldo and Anthony Tapper continue to enjoy punishing the IceDogs physically.

It should be a hard-fought battle once again; come on down to the Hershey Centre and check out the exciting playoff action!

If the Majors pick up a victory tomorrow night, they'll travel back to St. Catharines for game #5 on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m.

Majors playoff tickets can be purchased through the Hershey Centre box office during regular business hours, two hours prior to the puck drop on weekend game-days or by logging on to the Majors web site.
