
Majors Defeat Wolves in OT Thriller

Mississauga ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors participated in their final regular season home game against the Sudbury Wolves this afternoon, and ended off the day with a 5-4 overtime victory, in front of an audience of 4,076.
Majors rookie forward Devante Smith-Pelly and overage forward Jared Gomes (who enjoyed his last regular season game of his OHL career) earned three points each. As a result, the Majors conclude the regular season in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, with a record of 39-26-1-2.
Things started off quickly as Sudbury's Marcus Foligno connected 6:27 into the 1st period, off of passes from Peter Hermenegildo and Gerome Guidice. The Majors answered back when Jared Gomes scored shorthanded at 7:09. Casey Cizikas got the lone assist. Jordan Mayer made it 2-1 for Mississauga with his tally coming at 9:15. The helpers were Corey Bureau and Josh McFadden. Matt Dias rounded out the frame for the Wolves at 13:13 (unassisted).
The visitors went ahead 4-2 in the 2nd period, as Eric O'Dell (unassisted) and Hermenegildo (power-play) each produced a marker at 3:08 and at 7:56 respectively. Jake Cardwell and John Kurtz provided the feeds. Then, the Majors were back on the board with a goal coming late in the frame from Devante Smith-Pelly at 17:37 (power-play). The assists went to Gomes and Cizikas.
Mississauga got the lone marker in the 3rd period when Smith-Pelly wired a shot into the Wolves' net 4:02 into the frame to send the contest into overtime play. Cameron Gaunce and Gomes were the helpers.
William Wallén fired the puck into Sudbury's net at 3:17 on the power-play in the extra frame to break the tie, and to give the Majors the win. The assists had gone to Mike Pelech and Smith-Pelly.
JP Anderson got the start in net for the Majors and made 39 saves while Andrew Loverock turned aside 27 shots for the Wolves. Mississauga went 3 for 4 on the power-play, while Sudbury finished 1 for 7. The stars were Smith-Pelly (1st), Gomes (2nd) and O'Dell (3rd).
