
Whalers Start First Round of OHL Playoffs at Compuware Arena After 6-1 Win over Sarnia

PLYMOUTH - It took every bit of 68-regular season games, but the Plymouth Whalers know when they'll be starting the upcoming Ontario Hockey League playoffs.
The Whalers secured home ice advantage in the first round of the upcoming OHL playoffs with a 6-1 victory over the Sarnia Sting in today's regular season finale played before 2,947 at Compuware Arena.
Plymouth finishes the season 37-26-5-0, good for 79 points and fourth place in the OHL's Western Conference. The Whalers will host Guelph or Sarnia in a best-of-seven OHL quarterfinal series starting Saturday at 7:05pm at Compuware Arena.
The final game of the 680-OHL regular season schedule will determine Plymouth's first round playoff opponent. Guelph is playing Erie late this afternoon and depending on the outcome, the Whalers will face Guelph or Sarnia in the first round.
Irregardless of playing Guelph or Sarnia, Plymouth's first round series will run as follows:
Game 1 - Saturday, March 21 at 7:05pm - Sarnia/Guelph at Plymouth.
Game 2 - Sunday, March 22 - Plymouth at Guelph/Sarnia (time to be announced).
Game 3 - Tuesday, March 24 at 7:05 pm - Sarnia/Guelph at Plymouth.
Game 4 - Thursday, March 26 - Plymouth at Guelph/Sarnia (time to be announced).

Game 5 - Saturday, March 28 at 7:05 pm - Sarnia/Guelph at Plymouth.
Game 6 - Sunday, March 29 - Plymouth at Guelph/Sarnia (time to be announced).
Game 7 - Tuesday, March 31 at 7:05 pm - Sarnia/Guelph at Plymouth.
Tickets for all Plymouth Whalers playoff games are available by calling the Compuware Arena box office at (734) 453-8400. Plymouth's road playoff games will be shown via Whalers Vision at CJ's Brewing Company inside Compuware Arena.
Back to today's game, Plymouth never trailed in defeating Sarnia, leading 2-0 after one period and 3-1 after forty minutes. Tyler G. Brown led the Plymouth attack with two goals (7th and 8th of the season), while Tyler J. Brown (13th), Matt Caria (34th) and Michal Jordan (12th) added one goal apiece and first star Tyler Seguin distributed three assists. Plymouth goaltender Matt Hackett stopped 34-of-35 shots as the game's second star. Justin DiBenedetto scored the lone Sarnia goal, his team-leading 45th of the year. Sarnia finishes the season 35-26-4-3.
