Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

SAGINAW, ON — The Toronto St. Michael's Majors put together another fine road performance this evening in Saginaw, Michigan as they blanked the hometown Spirit 3-1. It was their 3rd-straight win in as many games against Western Conference opponents.

The offensive attack was led by winger Alexei Ivanov, who tallied 2 goals. Rookie netminder Wayne Savage was stellar in net for the Majors once again, turning aside 36 shots to earn his 3rd-consecutive win. With the victory, the Majors record improves to 20-24-4-2. They are now 4 points back of Belleville in the race for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot after the Bulls were defeated 5-0 in Sault Ste. Marie this evening.

Ivanov notched the 1st period's only goal, on the power-play at 11:48. The assists were credited to Savage and Cory Vitarelli. Then, John Adams made it 2-0 for the Majors when he contributed a shorthanded marker at 5:10 of the 2nd period off of a Darryl Boyce feed. Ivanov then ran the count to 3-0 at 6:27 of the final frame when he collected an unassisted goal.

The Spirit did manage to get on the board in the 3rd period when Marek Kvapil notched his 21st goal of the season at the 11:37 mark; the support came from Tom Pyatt and Jesse Gimblett. However, that's as close as they could get. Jeff Weber was between the pipes for Saginaw and turned aside 30 shots. The Majors went 1 for 5 on the power-play while the Spirit were 0 for 5. The game's three stars were Savage (1st), Ivanov (2nd) and Gimblett (3rd).

The Majors complete their 3-game Western Conference road swing tomorrow (Saturday) evening when they visit the Plymouth Whalers at 7:30 pm. They will return home to host the Sarnia Sting on Thursday, February 10th at 7:30 pm. Neither of these games will be televised but both will be available through the webcasts provided at www.stmichaelsmajors.com.

Majors tickets can be purchased in a number of ways: through the Majors office at (416) 651-8228, by calling Ticketmaster at (416) 872-5000, online at www.ticketmaster.ca or by stopping by the St. Michael's College School Arena box office within two hours of the puck drop.
