Norfolk Tides News Release

John Maine allowed one run in seven strong innings, helping the Tides knock off the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons 4-2 Wednesday night from Harbor Park.

Maine (1-3) was magnificent in picking up his first win of the season, allowing just five hits in 7.0 innings of work. The right-hander struck out nine and walked just one, surrendering just a solo home run to Scranton's Brennan King in the 7th inning.

Norfolk had scored just three total runs in Maine's first three outings of 2006, but utilized the sacrifice fly to jump out to an early lead against the Red Barons. Chase Lambin, Juan Tejeda and Julio Ramirez all plated runs via the sacrifice fly, with Tejeda adding another RBI with a double in the 5th inning that put the Tides up 4-0.

With the win, the Tides snapped a three-game losing streak, and also broke Scranton's franchise-best 10-game winning streak. The Red Barons had won ten straight games since losing to Norfolk 6-4 on April 14th at Lackawanna County Stadium.

Jeff Keppinger had two hits to pace the Tides offense, while Lastings Milledge singled and scored twice in the win. Milledge, who is hitting an even .400 for the season, extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

The Tides and Red Barons continue their four-game set with an afternoon contest Thursday afternoon from Harbor Park. Yusaku Iriki (1-1, 2.70) is slated to take the mound for Norfolk against highly-touted Phillies prospect Cole Hamels, who is making his Triple-A debut. Game time is set for 12:15 p.m.
