Mahin, Thunder Pound Roadrunners

EDINBURG, Texas - Nick Mahin drove in seven runs for the McAllen Thunder as they beat the Edinburg Roadrunners 13-3 Monday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Mahin finished the night 3-for-5 with two homeruns, one of which was a grand slam.

Demetrius Banks (2-0) got the win after allowing three runs on three hits with three strikeouts.

Vincent Blue got the Roadrunners (13-12) the early lead in the top of the third with a two-run single that drove in Eric Bloom and Pascual Del Real to make it 2-0.

The Thunder (8-18) answered back in the bottom of the third. Antoin Gray lined a two-run double to left field that allowed Michael Lewis and Craig Hertler to score. After a walk to Gianison Rosa, Mahin delivered his first of two homeruns, a three-run shot, to give McAllen the 5-2 edge.

Edinburg got a run back in the top of the fourth on sacrifice fly by Derek Perren that allowed Carlos Hereaud to score making it 5-3 McAllen.

In the bottom of the fifth, McAllen added four runs to their lead in an inning that was highlighted by a solo homerun by Antoin Gray which made it 9-3.

Nick Mahin extended the Thunder lead with a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth that made it 13-3.

Chad Robinson pitched a scoreless ninth to give the Thunder the 13-3 victory.

Ryan Smith (3-1) took the loss after allowing eight runs on five hits in five and a third innings

The Roadrunners and the Thunder will continue their four-game series Tuesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Dave Dinelli (1-3) is expected to face Yunier Colon (0-0) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
