Magic Comes out on Top in OT Thriller
March 24, 2019 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Moncton Magic News Release
Finishing on a high note. The Moncton Magic finish the regular season with a historic 27-13 record. There are many ups and downs experienced through a 40-game season, including player turnover, injuries, a lack of team chemistry, etc. In spite of that, the Magic have remained a motivated tightknit group that has been professional, resilient, and successful. After running through the KW Titans on March 23rd, the Moncton Magic follow it up by coming back and beating the Windsor Express in OT, 119-114.
Both Billy White and Corey Allmond were available off the bench but neither player saw any game action due to load management reasons. In their place, other players were given the opportunity of additional run. Recording his second double-double of his career, Freddie McSwain Jr. finished with 24 points, 14 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Jason Calliste was back in the lineup after serving his one game suspension, the three-point specialist had 21 points, 5 rebounds and knocked down 7 treys. Gentry Thomas added 17 points and 3 rebounds. While Joel Ndondo contributed with 8 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks, including the game tying putback that forced overtime.
It was a neck in neck race throughout for the Player of the Game honours. However, with 1:44 remaining in the fourth quarter Trey Kell took over and sealed the selection, scoring 8 points in one minute. Kell finished with 32 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists on 12-19 shooting from the field. The rookie has proven time and time again that he thrives with ball in his hands in pressure situations. If you need a basket in the clutch, give #11 the basketball and let him go to work.
For the Windsor Express, Juwan Howard Jr. was fantastic, finishing with 29 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Juan Pattillo was all over the rim this afternoon, the bouncy big finished with 26 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. Tyrrel Tate was active with 16 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals. While their level-headed floor general, Horace Wormely recorded a double-double of 14 points and 11 assists.
The playoffs are just around the corner! Your 1st seeded Moncton Magic will await their 4th seeded, first round opponents. The winner of the March 28th game between the Cape Breton Highlanders and the Saint John Riptide will determine the 3rd and 4th seeds in the Atlantic Division.
