
Madera Sold To The Boston Red Sox

DURHAM, NC - The Can-Am League announced today that the New Jersey Jackals have sold the contract of DH Sandy Madera to the Boston Red Sox. Madera is currently in extended spring training down at the Red Sox facility in Fort Myers, FL.
Madera had a superb 2007 campaign for the Jackals. The resident of Hyattsville, MD finished first in the league in batting average (.364), extra base hits (44) and slugging percentage (.615), tied for first in home runs (21), second in hits (125) and RBI (75) and fifth in runs scored (69) and on-base percentage (.421). Madera was a two-time Player of the Week (June 18-June 24 & August 27-September 2). He was both the June and August 45 B45 Player of the Month. The 27 year old was also named to the Postseason All-Star Team and given the league's "Star of Stars", which is an award given by PA-Sportsticker to the player with the best overall statistical performance in their particular league.
Madera was signed as a nondrafted free agent by the Oakland Athletics in February of 1998. He also played in the New York Yankees, Colorado Rockies and Baltimore Orioles organizations.
