Mississippi Braves News Release

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves (22-22, 55-58) closed out their five-game series against the Tennessee Smokies (16-29, 49-65) on Monday night at Trustmark Park by winning Sunday night's suspended game 3-1, but dropping the rubber match of the series in the nightcap, 1-0. The 2-3 series stopped a three-series winning streak for the Braves, as they head to Jacksonville for a five-game series with the Jumbo Shrimp beginning on Wednesday.

The two-game total attendance of 2,869 means that the Mississippi Braves are just 1,676 away from welcoming their 3 millionth fan to Trustmark Park!

Sunday's suspended game was picked up in the bottom of the second inning with the M-Braves ahead 2-0. The leed quickly jumped to 3-0 when Daniel Lockhart singled home Alejandro Salazar with two outs. Trey Harris and Greyson Jenista had RBI singles before the game was suspended on Sunday.

Claudio Custodio (W, 4-3) took over for starter Phil Pfeifer in the top of the third inning and ended up securing the win. The 26-year-old right-hander dealt three innings of scoreless baseball on just two hits, walking two and striking out two. Ben Rowen (H, 1) made his first M-Braves appearance since April in the sixth inning after spending the last three months in Triple-A. The submarine right-hander ceded one unearned run to make it 3-1.

Kurt Hoekstra (H, 1) worked 2.0 shutout innings in the seventh and eighth, striking out two, and Jason Creasy (S, 5) fanned one in the ninth in a scoreless inning to become 5-for-5 in save opportunities.

Alejandro Salazar went 2-for-3 with a run scored, providing the only multi-hit game for the M-Braves.

The nightcap on Monday night was pitcher's duel with Jared Young's RBI single for the Smokies in the top of the first inning being enough for a 1-0 win over the Braves. Despite putting a runner on base in each inning, Mississippi went 0-for-11 with men in scoring position and left nine on base.

Nolan Kingham (L, 0-1) made his Double-A debut, coming up from High-A Florida during Monday's flurry of roster moves. The 22-year-old right-hander gave up the first-inning run but held the Cubs affiliate off the scoreboard for the rest of the night. In all, Kingham dealt 5.0 innings of one-run baseball, scattering five hits while striking out one and walking two.

Ray-Patrick Didder reached base safely all four times, drawing a pair of walks being hit by a pitch twice. Didder leads minor league baseball with 91 hit by pitches since 2016.

Josh Graham struck out three over the final 2.0 innings of the game in his 31st outing of the season. Tennessee pitchers Erick Leal (W, 2-3), Baily Clark and Ole Miss product Wyatt Short (S, 9) combined for the four-hit shutout.

The M-Braves will have a day off on Tuesday to travel to Jacksonville before the series begins on Wednesday night. RHP Connor Johnstone (4-2, 3.66) will make the start for Mississippi against a to be determined starter for the Jumbo Shrimp. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 pm CT with coverage beginning at 5:50 pm on 103.9 WYAB, TuneIn Radio, First Pitch App, and MiLB.tv (subscription required).

The M-Braves will return to Trustmark Park for an 11-game homestand in ten days against the Birmingham Barons and Pensacola Blue Wahoos. The homestand features Clunker Car Night and Thirsty Thursday on Aug.15, Austin Riley Kids T-Shirt Giveaway, and Post-Game Fireworks on Friday, Aug. 16 and another Post-Game Fireworks Show and Princess Night on Saturday, Aug. 17.

The Mississippi Braves are the Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Since the inaugural 2005 season, 146 M-Braves have gone on to Major League Baseball. The M-Braves have made postseason play four times and went on to win the Southern League Championship in 2008. Stop by Trustmark Park or call 888-BRAVES4 Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
