PENSACOLA, FL - The Mississippi Braves (29-31) picked up two wins on Friday night, finishing the suspended game from Thursday evening. The M-Braves posted a season-high 15 runs and 18 hits in a 15-3 win over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (37-24) in front of a sellout crowd of 5,038 fans in Friday night's game at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
The day was highlighted by the first ever multi-grand slam game in M-Braves history. Cade Bunnell and Luke Waddell each hit a grand slam in Friday night's game.
Last night's suspended game restarted at 5 pm CT with the game tied at 3-3 in the seventh inning. The Blue Wahoos took a 4-3 lead on a solo home run from Griffin Conine, leading by that score after seven innings.
Drew Campbell smacked his second home run of the game to left field to tie the game at 4-4 in the ninth. In the 10th, Waddell smashed a go-ahead, two-run shot to right field to make it 6-4.
Campbell went 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBI and has four homers in the last four games. Of his seven home runs, four have come at Blue Wahoos Stadium. Waddell went 4-for-5 with a home run, two doubles and three RBI.
Alec Barger pitched the final two innings, winning the game for himself. The right-hander has a 2.33 ERA in 27 innings this season.
In tonight's regularly scheduled game, two-time All-Star Johnny Cueto made his second MLB rehab start for the Blue Wahoos. The M-Braves got to him right away and continued to pour it on late, winning 15-3 with 18 hits and two grand slams. Three home runs accounted for 11 of the runs.
After three straight base hits loaded the bases in the first, Bunnell smashed a grand slam off the scoreboard in right field to make it 4-0. Bunnell has two grand slams this season, his last one coming on May 14 at Trustmark Park.
Bunnell finished a triple shy of the cycle, going 3-for-6 with five RBI. Cueto ended up throwing 61 pitches, allowing four runs in 3 2/3 innings.
Luis De Avila posted a quality start, allowing three runs in six innings with six strikeouts. The left-hander earned his third win of the season. De Avila boasts a 1.68 ERA in 16 innings over three starts in June.
In the eighth, Waddell broke the game open with a grand slam to left field to make it 9-3. In the series, Waddell is 11-for-16 with three home runs, two doubles, four walks and nine RBI, reaching base 16 times.
The M-Braves scored 11 runs over the final three innings. In the ninth, Jesse Franklin V and Tyler Tolve each recorded RBI. Both players recorded three-hit games. Landon Stephens capped off the offensive fireworks with a mammoth three-run homer into the bay past left field to make it 15-3.
Andrew Moritz put together a three-hit game, going 3-for-5 with two runs.
After Kyle Wilcox pitched a scoreless inning, Domingo Gonzalez struck out the side in the ninth to close out the game.
The fifth game of the series is on Saturday at Blue Wahoos Stadium. LHP Domingo Robles (2-4, 3.06) will pitch for Mississippi while LHP Luis Palacios (4-1, 4.55) will start for Pensacola.
