Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves (12-11, 41-52) defeated the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (15-8, 45-46) by a final score of 2-1 on Saturday night. For the M-Braves, it was their second consecutive extra-innings walk-off victory against the Blue Wahoos after coming away with a 3-2 victory on Friday night. The M-Braves are now 7-0 at home in Saturday night contests.
M-Braves starter, Ricardo Sanchez gave the M-Braves a valiant effort on the mound as he matched his career high for the amount of innings pitched in a single game after tossing 7.0 in Saturday night's contest. Sanchez concluded his night by allowing just four hits, issuing two walks and striking out six in 7.0 innings of shutout baseball.
Right fielder, Tyler Neslony put the M-Braves on top 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning after smacking a solo home run well over the right field wall. Neslony's home run in the bottom of the second inning was his second of the 2018 season.
The M-Braves held a 1-0 lead until the top of the eighth inning when Pensacola tied the game 1-1 via a ground ball single by Jose Siri followed by a throwing error from M-Braves shortstop, Ray-Patrick Didder.
With the score tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, the M-Braves and the Blue Wahoos took the game to extra innings for the second consecutive night. With Didder at the plate and Connor Lien aboard third base, the M-Braves claimed their second extra-innings walk-off victory over the Blue Wahoos when Lien scored the game winning run after the failed pickoff attempt from Pensacola catcher, Chris Okey.
Mississippi relief pitcher, Chad Sobotka (2-3, 2.08) earned the win after tossing two scoreless innings and recording three strikeouts. Pensacola reliever, Carlos Navas (3-1, 3.11) suffered the loss.
