Hoover, AL - After falling behind 6-0 through four innings, the Mississippi Braves staged a valiant attempt at a comeback only to fall short, losing to the Birmingham Barons 6-4 on Saturday night at Regions Park.

Birmingham (2-1, 32-40) plated six runs, including five in the fourth inning off of Zeke Spruill. Every run in the fourth came with two outs, as six straight Barons got hits. Luis Sierra hit an RBI single to score Tyler Saladino, making it a 2-0 game in the fourth. Kenny Williams then singled in two runs, and Dan Wagner capped off the inning with a two-run double to put the Barons up 6-0.

But the Braves (1-2, 31-42) came marching back. In the fifth, Mississippi answered with two runs of their own on a Tim Smith RBI single to score Phil Gosselin. Joey Terdoslavich also came in on a throwing error by Luis Sierra. Another run in the eighth inning on a Keenan Wiley RBI double made it 6-3, and the Braves scored another in the ninth on Todd Cunningham's RBI single to pull it to 6-4.

But with Smith and third and Cunningham at second, Cory Harrilchak struck out against Santos Rodriguez to end the game.

Zeke Spruill suffered his seventh loss of the season. He pitched six innings, allowing six runs on 10 hits. Spencer Arroyo picked up the win in his double-A debut, allowing just one earned run on six hits in five frames. Rodriguez saved his sixth contest.

Brandon, Mississippi native Brent Leach made his Mississippi Braves debut, pitching a scoreless seventh inning with one hit and one strikeout. Cory Rasmus pitched a perfect eighth, but the Braves bats didn't have enough for the comeback.

The M-Braves battle the Barons in game four on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 PM CT at Regions Park. Right-hander David Hale (5-3, 4.21) toes the rubber for the Braves, while the Barons send right-hander Nestor Molina (4-6, 4.65). Listen live beginning at 3:30 PM CT with the Vicksburg Toyota "Countdown to First Pitch" on 103.9 WYAB and online at MississippiBraves.com.
