Generals' Fernandez Fires Complete Game In Double-A Debut

JACKSON, TENN. - Anthony Fernandez pitched the first 9-inning complete game for Jackson Saturday, since August 10, 2009. The Generals defeated Huntsville at Pringles Park 5-1, in front of 3,806 fans. Jackson has won two straight and now lead the series, 2-1.

The Generals trailed 1-0 heading into the third inning. 2B Stefen Romero continued his hot hitting with his first Double-A homer, a 3-run homer to left giving Jackson a 3-1 lead. It was a lead that never vanquished.

DH Joe Dunigan added another long home run in the sixth inning to make the score 4-1. Dunigan has 14 home runs on the season that is t-2nd in the Southern League.

Romero capped his night off with an RBI triple to right-center in the seventh inning to make the final score 5-1.

LH Anthony Fernandez (1-0) allowed just one run on six hits over the 9-inning complete game. Fernandez struck out five and walked one. The last complete game was Nick Hill back on August 10, 2009 against the Carolina Mudcats at Pringles Park. Huntsville RH Kyle Heckathorn (2-7) suffered the loss.

Dunigan was 3-for-4 with a homer, while Romero finished 2-for-4, with a triple and four RBI to lead the Generals offense.

The Generals continue their 5-game series with Huntsville on Sunday night, with first pitch set for 6:05 p.m. RHP Brandon Maurer (5-1, 3.82) makes the start for Jackson against RHP Hiram Birgos (2-1, 2.40) for Huntsville. Sunday their will be a pregame concert featuring Saul2Paul and buy-one-get-one free on tickets with your church bulletin.
