M-Braves Claim Series with 3-2 Win over Mobile

PEARL, MS -- Phil Gosselin broke a 2-2 tie with a RBI-double in the bottom of the seventh as the M-Braves hung on to defeat the Mobile BayBears 3-2 in Monday night's series finale at Trustmark Park. With the win, the M-Braves claimed the series victory. Mississippi returns to Trustmark Park Monday, April 15 at 7:00 PM.

Mississippi (3-2) scored three runs on six hits while Mobile (2-3) scored two runs on 12 hits. Each team committed one error. Gosselin had two RBIs on the night. Nick Evans and Jon Griffin led the BayBears with three-hit nights.

The BayBears took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Evans and Griffin reached on back-to-back singles. Brent Clevlen followed with a single to left field, driving in Evans and putting Mobile out front early.

In the bottom of the third, Jaime Pedroza reached on an error and took second on an error by the centerfielder. Pedroza moved over to third on a sacrifice bunt from Gary Moran and came in to score on Phil Gosselin's sacrifice fly, tying the game at 1-1.

Mobile responded in the fourth. Evans singled and Griffin doubled to start the inning. David Nick followed with a single to left field, plating Evans and putting the BayBears up 2-1.

In the bottom of the seventh, Mycal Jones reached on a bunt singled and stole second. Pedroza walked before a double steal put runners at second and third. Luis Nunez drove in Jones with a sacrifice fly to right field. Gosselin then ripped a double to left field, driving in Pedroza and putting the M-Braves out front 3-2.

Ian Thomas (1-1) picked up his first win of the season. He gave up one hit while striking out one batter in two innings of work. Ryne Harper (S, 2) came on to record the save. Dan Cortes (0-1) surrendered the loss, giving up two earned runs on two hits, a walk and one strikeout in his only inning.

Neither starter factored in the decision. Gary Moran started and worked five innings for the M-Braves. He gave up two earned runs on nine hits and one strikeout. Derek Eitel tossed five frames for the BayBears, giving up one unearned run on three hits and a walk. He struck out one batter.

The M-Braves take a day off Tuesday before traveling to Birmingham for a five-game series against the Barons. In game one of the series, Braves right-hander Aaron Northcraft (0-0, 0.00) counters Barons righty Nestor Molina (0-0, 3.86).
