
Generals Post Second Straight Shutout Victory

JACKSONVILLE, FLA (April 8, 2013) - The Generals posted their second straight shutout Monday afternoon at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville, 1-0. Jackson starter James Gillheeney (W, 1-0 - 5.0,3,0,0,1,2) posted 5.0 shutout innings to earn his first win of the season. Jackson starters have not allowed a run in 23 innings dating back to Friday night.
The only tally of the contest came in the top of the second inning. Vinnie Catricala (0x3, R) led off the second by being hit by a pitch. Julio Morban (1x1, 2B) doubled to left and then Francisco Martinez (1x3 RBI) brought in Catricala with a groundout to short.
Neither team excelled with runners in scoring position. Jackson finished the day 0-for-6, while Jacksonville was 0-for-9. The Suns stranded runners at third in the sixth and eighth innings.
Jackson relievers Forrest Snow (1,2,1,0,0,0,2) and Tyler Burgoon (1.1,1,0,0,1,2) earned holds behind the starter Gillheeney. Carson Smith (S, 1 - 1.0,0,0,0,0,1) earned his first Double-A save by working a perfect bottom of the ninth inning.
Jacksonville stater Sam Dyson (0-1) took the loss and only allowed one run on three hits, while striking out five in 5.0 innings pitched.
There was just a combined 9 hits in the game and only Jacksonville's JT Realmuto collected a multi-hit game. Realmuto was 3-for-4.
Notes:
- OF Julio Morban left the game in the third inning with tightness in his groin
- SS Brad Miller went 0-for-4 and had his 3-game hitting streak come to an end
- After the first series of the season the team ERA is 2.32 and batting average is .190
The Generals will have a day off Tuesday for FanFest and return to action for the home opener on Wednesday night at The Ballpark, with first pitch at 7:05 p.m. against Montgomery. RHP Taijuan Walker (0-1, 7.20) makes the start for Jackson against RHP Matt Buschmann (0-1,12.27) for Jacksonville. The Generals will host the annual FanFest on Tuesday, April 9th at 5:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Jackson's home opener will be on Wednesday, April 10th against the Montgomery Biscuits, at 7:05 p.m.
