Blue Wahoos Take Rubber Match 2-1 over Smokies

In his first start in AA, Daniel Renken yielded one run over seven innings as the Pensacola Blue Wahoos won the final game of the series over the Tennessee Smokies 2-1 at Pensacola Bay Front Stadium. The Smokies managed just one hit in the final five innings of the contest.

Renken (1-0) scattered four hits and two walks with five strikeouts for the win in his first start. Lee Hyde, in his first outing since receiving the loss on Saturday, threw a perfect top of the 9th for the save. Dae-Eun Rhee (0-1) suffered the loss for the Smokies lasting 4.1 innings allowing one run on four hits with five strikeouts.

Justin Bour's third run batted in of the season gave the Smokies a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st. Matt Szczur singled, advanced to third on a single by Arismendy Alcantara, and scored on Bour's sacrifice fly to put the Smokies in front.

Pensacola rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the 5th and take the lead in the bottom of the 6th. With the bases loaded and one out in the 5th, Devin Lohman singled to left field to knot the game at 1-1. They took the lead at 2-1 in the 6th inning courtesy of a Travis Mattair RBI double that scored Donald Lutz.

The Smokies return home for their home opener on Wednesday night at 7:15 PM to begin a series with the Chattanooga Lookouts. Tennessee sends right-hander Dallas Beeler (0-1, 6.75 ERA) to the mound against Chattanooga righty Zach Lee (0-0, 2.25 ERA) at Smokies Park.
