Lynx, Ducks End Affiliation
May 21, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
Augusta, GA -The Augusta Lynx announced on Wednesday that they will no longer be affiliated with the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League. The Ducks, who have been the Lynx NHL affiliate for the past two seasons, have announced that the Bakersfield Condors will serve as their ECHL affiliate next season. The Lynx will now actively pursue a new NHL affiliate for the 2008-09 season.
"We have enjoyed our affiliation with the Anaheim Ducks the past couple of seasons," said Lynx General Manager Dan Troutman. "We received and were able to develop several quality players, who made a tremendous impact on the ice and in the community during their time here in Augusta." The Ducks new ECHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors, reside only about 140 miles away from Anaheim. The Lynx were over 2,300 miles away from the Ducks. "Obviously, geographic location played a big factor in this decision and we can certainly understand the reasoning behind it," said Lynx Head Coach Bob Ferguson. "We had a great relationship with the Ducks and will continue to follow the players we have become familiar with in their ultimate quest to make it to the NHL."
This past season, the Lynx received several players from the Anaheim organization, including Adrian Veideman (member of the ECHL All-Rookie and All-Star teams this past season), Matt Christie, Ryan Dingle and Gerald Coleman, who are all currently playing with the Portland Pirates in the American Hockey League. Portland is playing the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the Eastern Conference Finals of the Calder Cup Playoffs, with the best of seven series currently tied at 2-2. Other players that appeared in the Lynx line-up this past season that were property of Anaheim included: Matt Auffrey, Bobby Bolt, Shane Hynes, Geoff Peters, Bobby Goepfert, and Jean-Phillipe Levasseur.
So the search begins for the Augusta Lynx for a new NHL affiliate. Affiliate changes are nothing new for the Lynx or other teams in the ECHL. "The hockey landscape changes so much that this type of move is almost inevitable," said Troutman. "Our goal now is to find a new affiliate that will provide us with quality players that Bob Ferguson will be able to work with and develop."
