Phoenix RoadRunners News Release

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks and the Worcester Sharks, are pleased to announce that the club was able to donate $59,065 in cash, tickets, and memorabilia during the 2007-08 season to local non-profit organizations throughout Arizona.

In their first three seasons, the RoadRunners have raised a total of $267,535 for local charities.

Highlighting the RoadRunners' fundraising efforts for a second consecutive year was the "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer", a three-month event culminated by a live jersey auction that raised more than $10,000 for the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Phoenix Children's Hospital and Caps For Kids, a national non-profit organization which provides hats autographed by athletes and celebrities to children who lose their hair due to the effects of chemotherapy.

Since the program's inception last season, the RoadRunners have raised a total of $29,400 in the fight against pediatric cancer.

The RoadRunners also raised $8,425 during their inaugural "Pink in the Rink" celebration Nov. 10-11 to benefit the local Phoenix affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the world's largest and progressive grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists.

In hopes of raising breast cancer awareness throughout the Valley, the RoadRunners skated on pink ice at US Airways Center while wearing specially-designed, limited-edition pink jerseys during their two-game series against the Las Vegas Wranglers. The organization also recognized local breast cancer survivors during special pre-game ceremonies.

Other fundraising events included the first ever Student Recognition and Learning Program, which collected more than 3,000 books for Banner Children's Hospital at Banner Desert Medical Center, the Kids Coat Drive, which benefited Sanderson Ford's sixth annual "Operation Santa Claus, and multiple food drives to help the St. Mary's Food Bank fight hunger in the local community.

The RoadRunners return to the ice at US Airways Center in October for their fourth season of ECHL hockey.
