International League Final -- Saturday, May 17th (10 innings)
@ Lynx Stadium, Ottawa, ON
Norfolk Tides 4
Toledo Mud Hens 3
Winning Pitcher - Jim Serrano (1-1)
Losing Pitcher - Hector Carrasco (3-1) Player of the Game: Norfolk 3B Chris Basak had three hits and drove in three of the four Tides runs, including the game winner in the 10th inning, as the Lynx 4-3 in 10 innings.
Home Runs:
OTT - Pedro Swann, his second of the year.
TOL - none Key Plays: Basak's double down the left field line in the 10th drove home the winning run. Recap: Norfolk scored two runs in the top of the 2nd, as Dan Garcia's RBI single was followed by the first of Basak's three RBI base hits. The Lynx countered in the bottom half, when Pedro Swann's blast to right just cleared the fence, bringing the Lynx to within one. Basak was at it again in the 4th inning, as his double scored Joe DePastino who had singled earlier in the inning. The Lynx were shut down in the middle innings, but did get to within one in the 7th, as ever-hot Carlos Mendez' bad-hot single off of Basak ( of all people's) glove, scored Brian Roberts from second. The Lynx tied the game in the 8th when Joey Hammond lined a single to right after battling for much of his at-bat with reliever Pete Zamora. Hammond's single scored Swann, who had singled to lead off. In the 10th inning, Dan Garcia led off with a base hit, and scored on Basak's double to left. The Lynx managed a two-out hit by Steve Lomasney in the bottom half, but Jim Serrano struck out Joey Hammond to end any threat and the game. Jim Serrano (2.0ip, 1h, 0r, 2bb, 2k) gets his firs win. Hector Carrasco (2.0ip, 3h, 1r, 1er, 2bb, 2k) takes his first loss. Notes: No Lynx player hit for the cycle, so the $25,000 prize was not won!
