Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
LYNCHBURG HILLCATS (25-14) @ FREDERICK KEYS (18-21)
May 21st, 2009 -- 7:00 PM
@ Harry Grove Stadium
LHP Paul Mildren (1-3, 5.46) vs. RHP Pedro Beato (1-3, 4.79)
THE HILLCATS: Lynchburg fell to Frederick 9-5 last night in game three at Harry Grove Stadium...The Hillcats won the first two games of the series before dropping last night's game...They still have a game and half lead over Potomac for first place in the Northern Division and the best record in the league...Tonight is the fourth game of a four-game series at Frederick and a seven-game road trip...This trip finishes off a stretch of 13 out of 16 on the road for the Cats...
VS. FREDERICK: Lynchburg took two out of three from Frederick when they met earlier this season at City Stadium and have now won two out of three in this four-game series to move to 4-2 against the Keys...Last season the Keys won the season series against the Cats 12-7 and went 6-4 at home...Lynchburg though holds the all-time advantage 146-131 and they are 70-67 at Harry Grove Stadium in Frederick...
WE'RE THE FREDERICK KEYS? Last night a costly error led to an unearned run that gave the Keys the lead, and the Cats bullpen allowed five runs and an inherited runner to score in two and 2/3 innings...Frederick leads the league in errors (58) and unearned runs (49), and their bullpen has five different relievers with an earned run average over 7.00...The Keys bullpen though, secured the win last night and did not allow a run in game two on Tuesday, and they have not committed an error in the last two games...On Monday night they committed three errors that led to eight unearned runs...
NORTHERN EXPOSURE: This series against Frederick is the second of three straight sets against Northern Division foes for the Hillcats...After taking two out of three from Wilmington at City Stadium, Lynchburg has taken two out of three in this four-game set...The Cats are now 10-6 against the North this season and 3-3 on the road...
DEALING DUBEE: RHP Michael Dubee pitched two scoreless innings Monday night to preserve the 2-1 win and earn his third save of the season for Lynchburg in as many opportunities...Since allowing at least a run to score in his first two outings, he has not allowed a run in his last 11 appearances (15 and 2/3 innings)...RHP Dustin Molleken just had a 14 scoreless innings streak end on Monday night and RHP Michael Colla has gone 14 and 1/3 innings without allowing a run as well...
JUST ENOUGH: RHP Ronald Uviedo earned his second victory of the season Monday night in the 2-1 win...He has only two wins this year despite the fact that he has allowed two runs or less in six of his eight starts...In five of those outings he allowed just one earned run or less, including his five scoreless innings against Frederick at home earlier this season...Uviedo took a no-decision in that start despite the fact that the Hillcats won the game...
HAMMERING HAGUE: After a slow power start to the season, 1B Matt Hague is starting to find the extra-base stroke that helped him earn a ninth round selection in last year's draft...He did not homer in his first 30 games, and then homered twice in the next three games, including a tenth inning game winning homer at Winston-Salem last week...He had just one double in his first 17 games, and now has seven in his last 20 contests, including three in the first two games of this four-game series...Hague is riding a season-high seven-game hitting streak in which he is batting .313 (10-for-32) with three doubles, two homers, six RBI and six runs scored...
PUT ME IN, COACH, I'M READY TO PLAY TODAY: INF Ray Chang has proven himself ready to play when called upon this season...His 1-for-3 performance last night with a double, two runs scored and a walk extended his season-long hitting streak to 12 games...That passed OF Alex Presley (nine games) for the longest streak of the season by a Hillcat...Over that stretch Chang has gone 19-for-46 (.413) with 11 RBI and 12 runs scored...His 12-game hit-streak has covered 25 Hillcats games...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Pedro Beato was selected in the first round (32nd overall pick) of the 2006 draft by the Orioles out of St Petersburg College...He made his professional debut that year and went 3-2 with a 3.47 ERA in 14 games (10 starts) for Short Season Low-A Aberdeen...He advanced to full season Low-A Delmarva the next season and posted a 7-8 mark with a 4.05 ERA in 27 starts...Last year he spent the majority of the season with Frederick at the High-A level and went 4-10 with a 5.85 ERA in 19 starts...He also made two rehab starts with the GCL Orioles and he went 0-1 with a 4.00 ERA...This season he has returned to Frederick and has gone 1-3 with a 4.79 ERA in seven starts... Last season Beato made four starts against Lynchburg and went 1-2 with a 3.72 ERA...He has also made one start against the Hillcats this season and went six innings, allowed three runs and took the loss at City Stadium...
