THE HILLCATS...continue a seven-game homestand with the second of four games against the reigning Mills'Cup Champion Kinston Indians...Allowed six late runs and fell 10-4 in the opening game of the set on Monday night...Have alternated wins and losses over their last 9 games...Enter tonight's contest with a .269 team batting average (2nd in the CL) and a 4.76 collective ERA (8th in the CL)...Are now 2.5-games behind the Potomac Nationals for first place in the Northern Division...

THE INDIANS...Have won four of their last five games, overall..Are the only team in the Carolina League that boasts a winning mark on the road (6-2)...Enter tonight's contest with a .252 team batting average (5th in the CL) and a 2.83 collective ERA (2nd in the CL)...Captured their sixth Mills' Cup Championship with a three-game series sweep of the Frederick Keys last September...Have advanced to the post-season each of the last six years (only 2nd occurrence of such in CL history)...

2007 vs. KINSTON: The K-Tribe lead the season series 3 games to 2..Kinston captured the 2006 season series, 12 games to 8...However, the Hillcats lead the lifetime series 125-116 (.519) and have held a significant edge at home, going 68-50 (.576) in 118 all-time games at Lynchburg City Stadium...

TRANSACTIONS: The Pirates' announced on Monday that 1B Steve Pearce (see below) has been promoted to Double-A Altoona...His vacant spot on the roster has been filled by OF Jamie Romak (see page 11) who was acquired alongside Adam LaRoche this past off-season in a trade with the Atlanta Braves...In addition, RHP Ronald Belisario has been added to the active roster from Extended Spring Training and LHP Brian Holliday has been placed on the Disabled List, retroactively to 4/22...

PEARCE BY THE NUMBERS: 1B Steve Pearce was named Carolina League Player of the Week for the week ending April 29th...The slugger hit 15-31, .484-8-16 over the remarkable stretch...The 24-year old set a pair of team records this past week, registering seven consecutive multi-hit games and homering in five straight games...He currently leads all of Minor League Baseball with 11 home runs and trails just Yankees' 3B Alex Rodriguez (14) for most long balls in professional baseball...

HANKINS HOT: RHP Derek Hankins' went five innings last night and left with the game tied at 2 after surrending just a pair of unearned runs...He has lasted five or more innings in each of his first four outings of the year and has a team-best 1.77 ERA...

STREAKS CONTINUE: OF Pedro Powell went 1-for-4 yesterday and has reached base safely in 18 straight contests...He is batting .300 (21-70) during the streak...OF Jason Delaney haS reached base safely in 18 of the his 19 games played...The Boston College product is batting .361 (22-61) over that stretch...

NIGHTMARES: The Hillcats are just 4-10 in night games to begin the season...Lynchburg has played their best baseball during day games, posting a 5-1 mark...

BYE, BYE, APRIL: For just the 3rd time in team-history (1995-), the Cats failed to post a double-digit win total in April...In addition, it is just the fourth time in team-history the Cats failed to post a winning record in the season's opening month...

TONIGHT'S OPPONENT: Kevin Dixon is a 23-year old right-hander selected by Cleveland in the fifth round of the 2005 draft out of Minnesota State University. The Minnesota native went 3-6 with a 4.53 ERA (57.2 ip, 66 h, 34 r, 29 er, 11 bb, 31 k) in his first professional season with Mahoning Valley (A, NYPL). Dixon began 2006 with Lake County (A, SAL) and dominated the Low-A competition by going 2-1 with a 1.36 ERA. He concluded last year with Kinston and went 6-3 with a 5.19 ERA in 13 starts for the K-Tribe. Selected 154th overall, Dixon was the highest selection by a Minnesota State player since Fritz Polka in 1986. Polka was drafted with the 42nd overall selection by New York (NL) and is the highest selection in school history.
