Salem, VA-The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, plated just one run Tuesday night against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans to fall 6-1 on Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. The loss comes a day after the Avalanche crossed the plate 11 times in shutting the Pelicans out.

Myrtle's first salvo of the game came in the second inning against Salem starter Brian Bogusevic. Kala Ka'aihue and Roberto Alvarez clubbed back-to-back singles to open the frame. Then, on a 1-0 pitch, Paul Bennett smoked a two-run triple to left-center that plated both runners. After successive ground-ball outs, Robert Marcial slapped his fourth hit of the season against the Avalanche for an RBI. That made the score 3-0.

In the following frame, Ka'aihue notched an RBI single to plate the fourth run. Quentin Davis closed the scoring with a two-run triple in the sixth.

Salem's lone run came across in the fifth inning against Myrtle Beach starter James Parr. Eric King brought Ryan Reed home on a sacrifice fly after Billy Hart put Reed at third with a sacrifice bunt.

The Avs mounted just three hits in the game, their smallest output of the season. Both Eli Iorg and Mark Ori went hitless, stopping their hit streaks at 14 and 10 respectively.

Game three of the series comes Wednesday at 7:07 as Avs righty Brad James (3-0, 0.67) faces Myrtle's Jairo Cuevas (0-3, 4.62).
