Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers News Release
(Brainerd Lakes Area) - In his final outing in a Lunker uniform this season, Aaron Conyers went out with a bang, pitching seven innings and only giving up one run in the Lunkers 7-1 victory over the Rochester Honkers Thursday night at Mills Field.
Conyers, whose contract expires on Friday, picked up his fourth win of the season on his 22nd birthday.
The Lunker bats went to work once again on Thursday night, as they put up four runs in the Bottom of the 3rd. Andrew Letourneau's two-run double gave the Lunkers their first two runs of the game.
After the four run 3rd, a Tommy Reyes single in the 4th drove in six more runs to make it a 6-0 Lunker lead at the time. Each team would plate one more run for the 7-1 final.
Jeff McKenzie takes the loss in his first start for the Honkers as he falls to (0-1).
Lunker pitcher Tyler Harris, whose contract also expires Friday, came in to the game in the Top of the 9th and pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
With the win, the Lunkers have clinched a winning record for the first half as they move to (16-9), remaining one game behind Mankato in the North Division standings. The Honkers fall to (9-18).
The Lunkers and Honkers will wrap up the three-game series in Brainerd Friday night at 7:05. Jason Forjet gets the start for Brainerd Lakes Area against Bennett Klimesh for Rochester. There will be fireworks presented by Mills Fleet Farm following the game.
