Chicago Steel News Release

GENEVA, ILLINOIS - The Eastern Conference-leading Chicago Steel (18-4-5-0; 41 pts) close out the 2021 calendar and open the new year with a two-game set against the Madison Capitols (13-11-2-0; 28 pts.) at Fox Valley Ice Arena with the first game on Thursday, Dec. 30 at 6:05 pm CT and a Sunday matchup on Jan. 2 at 3:05 pm CT.

The first 500 fans to the Fox Valley Ice Arena on Thursday evening will receive a Steel lunchbox cooler with the Steel logo on the front. Sunday's game is a Steel Family Pack Game, featuring a deal that includes 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, 4 chips, 4 sodas/waters and 4 chuck-a-pucks for just $50.

Thursday's giveaway for Steel fans is a special lunchbox cooler, designed to look like a replica of Chicago's black jerseys. The USHL crest appears on the top left corner just above the Steel logo. Chicago's signature red stripe outlined in white runs across the bottom of the lunchbox, completing a unique look that is only available for the first 500 fans on Thursday night.

In the most recent USHL game action, the Steel earned three out of a possible four points with a 4-3 overtime loss against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on Dec. 17 in Iowa and a 3-2 overtime victory over Cedar Rapids the following night at Fox Valley Ice Arena.

A trio of unsung heroes powered the Steel to the 3-2 victory on home ice as Michael Emerson tallied his third goal of the season before Nick Moldenhauer popped the back of the net in the game's closing minutes of regulation to send the contest to the extra frame. Andon Cerbone unleashed his fifth tally of the season to seal the overtime win for Chicago, his first career game-winning goal in the USHL.

This week, the Steel were honored with four selections to the 2022 BioSteel All-American Game, a showcase of the top US-born talent eligible for the 2022 NHL Draft, scheduled for Monday, Jan. 17 at 4 pm ET on NHL Network at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich.

Forwards Jack Harvey and Zam Plante along with defenseman Jake Livanavage and goaltender Gibson Homer will join the top prospects from around the USHL and Team USA U18 for the showcase before the NHL Draft, scheduled for July 7 & 8, 2022.

Facing off against Madison for the third and fourth times of 10 scheduled contests this season, Chicago carries a 1-0-1-0 mark versus the Eastern Conference rival thus far in the 2021-2022 slate.

After a seven-game win streak early in the season, the Capitols have cooled off with a 3-6-1-0 mark over their last 10 outings.

Madison boasts six players over the 20-point plateau for the year, already two more than the club's most recent season when only four skaters reached the mark in 2019-2020. Nick DeSantis leads the way for the Capitols with 24 points (9G, 15A) but Jake Dunlap holds the team lead with 10 goals this season, one of which was scored in the most recent matchup against the Steel on Nov. 20.

After the games on Thursday and Sunday, Chicago faces off against the Green Bay Gamblers for a two-game set at Resch Center in Wisconsin on Friday, Jan. 7 and Saturday, Jan. 8, both games scheduled for 7:05 pm CT.

Tickets start at just $10 and are available in person at the Steel Box Office at Fox Valley Ice Arena, by phone at 855-51-STEEL and online at chicagosteelhockeyteam.com. The Steel now offer single-game ticket discounts for kids 12 and under and military.
