Montgomery Biscuits News Release
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Omar Luna rounded the bases for the first Biscuits inside-the-park home run since 2006, and Brett Nommensen went 4-for-4 as the Biscuits (65-54/29-22) took the opener from the Huntsville Stars (59-62/24-27) 4-1 Tuesday at Joe Davis Stadium.
Luna's homer made it 1-0 against Johnnie Lowe (2-3) with two outs in the first. He crushed one to center that Josh Prince couldn't haul in while colliding with the wall, and a ricochet towards right-center gave Luna enough time to make it home.
The added insurance with a Kyeong Kang RBI-single in the seventh, and a pair of runs scored thanks to a two-out error in the top of the ninth to finish the scoring.
Biscuits starter Merrill Kelly (7-2) fired five shutout innings to get his first win as a starter. Marquis Fleming and Chris Rearick bridged the lead to Kirby Yates (14) who struck out the side to lock down the save despite the tying run coming to the plate in the ninth.
Nommensen's four-hit effort included three singles and a double, and was the fourth by a Biscuit this year.
The Biscuits have now won five-of-six, and sit two full games atop the South Division with 19 remaining. LHP Kyle Lobstein will oppose RHP Ariel Pena in game two of the series Wednesday night at 6:43.
