Wilmington Sharks News Release
Columbia, S.C. - Alex Luna threw a complete game for the Wilmington Sharks (7-6, 21-19) on Friday night in a 3-2 road win against the Columbia Blowfish (7-2, 24-13).
Luna picked up his first win of the year; he threw over 100 pitches in the game as he gave up two runs on seven hits and struck out four.
The Sharks got on the board early in the top of the first inning as Andrew Amaro led off with a walk and eventually scored on a Cody Dolan single to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead. The Blowfish struck in the bottom of the second inning as Ryan Bull picked up a single to lead off the inning and eventually scored on an RBI double from Cody Smith to even up the game 1-1. The Blowfish took the lead in the same inning on an error, which allowed Smith to score to make 2-1 Columbia.
The Sharks came back in the top of the fifth inning as Cody Dolan was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Zach MacAneney to make it 2-2. Alex Freedman put the Sharks ahead for good in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI triple down the right field line to score Andrew Amaro to make it 3-2 Sharks and that was enough for Luna to pick up the win.
Freedman went 2-5 with a triple and RBI as that is now his 11th multi-hit game of the year. Dolan went 1-2 with an RBI in the game. The Wilmington Sharks will continue their South Carolina road tip on Saturday night as they take on the Florence RedWolves with a 7:30 p.m. first pitch.
