Blowfish Fall to Sharks, 3-2

COLUMBIA, S.C.- On a warm humid Friday night the (7-1) second half Columbia Blowfish held host to the (7-6) second half Wilmington Sharks at Historic Capital City Stadium, as Sharks starting pitcher Alex Luna (Alabama Birmingham) tossed a complete game win.

The Sharks opened up the scoring in the top of the first inning win an RBI single off the bat off Cody Dolan (Winthrop).

The Blowfish would answer with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second inning with a leadoff single from Ryan Bull (Notre Dame). A SAC bunt from short stop D.C. Arendas (South Carolina), moved Bull over to second. Blowfish catcher, Lee Howard (Florida State), grounded out to the third baseman, Bull, would reach third on the throw over to first. Blowfish second baseman, Cody Smith (Southern Methodist), came up and ripped a double to right field scoring Bull. Smith advanced to third on a wild pitch. Blowfish third baseman Brandon Mitchell (North Carolina A&T) reached base on an error by the shortstop, scoring smith from third.

The Sharks would tally two more on the board with one in the fifth and one in the seventh. Those three runs would be enough to hold off the Blowfish offense as Columbia fell to Wilmington 3-to-2.

Alex Luna (Alabama Birmingham), was the starter for the Sharks, as he tossed a complete game win over the Blowfish. Luna went nine innings, giving up two runs, one earned, off of eight hits, one walk, and four strikeouts. Luna picked up his first win of the season bringing him to (1-2).

Blowfish starter Friday night was right-hander David Duncan (Florida A&M), who threw six innings, giving up two runs off of three hits, two walks, and three strikeouts. Hunter Privette (South Carolina), came on in relief for three innings, giving up one run off of two hits, one walk, and four strikeouts. Duncan picked up the loss moving him to (2-4) on the season.

The Blowfish are now (7-2) in the second half of the season sitting in first place of the Western Standings of the Coastal Plain League.

The Columbia Blowfish will be back in action at home next Wednesday night, July 24th hosting the Martinsville Mustangs with first pitch set for 7:05pm. Gates open at 6:00pm. It's also Wed Wednesday! You can get two Natty or Busch Light cans for $3 from 6-8pm!
