Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

FOX CITIES STADIUM -- The Clinton LumberKings had scored in all but two innings for a wild and weird 15-8 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Sunday afternoon. Kevin Richardson homered and drove in four runs for Clinton. The LumberKings hammered out fifteen hits and everytime the Timber Rattlers got close, Clinton pulled a little farther ahead. Michael Schlact was the winning pitcher, despite allowing six runs on ten hits over six innings. The Rattlers and LumberKings split the four game series and Wisconsin trails the Western Division leading LumberKings by four games.

Clinton (27-16) scored a run in the first and two runs in the second to take an early 3-0 lead. Jim Fasano's RBI grounder in the first put the LumberKings in front. Ian Gac's two-run double in the second put the LumberKings a little bit more in front of the Rattlers.

The LumberKings made it 5-0 with a pair of run in the top of the fifth. Richardson drove in one with a single. The other came in on a throwing error later in the inning.

Wisconsin (23-20) rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Brent Johnson drove in the first run with a one out single. Schlact got the second out of the inning. Then, he gave up four straight singles. Josh Womack's single put runners on first and second. Next, Sebastien Boucher, Asdrubal Cabrera, and Rob Johnson had three straight RBI singles to get the Rattlers to within 5-4.

But, Gac singled in a run in the top of the sixth inning to get Clinton a 6-4 lead.

The Rattlers tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a two-out, two-run home run by Oswaldo Navarro.

The game didn't stay tied long. Rattler reliever Roman Martinez gave up a lead off single and a one out double in the top of the seventh to put runners at second and third. Reliever Steve Grasley entered and gave up a sacrifice fly to Andrew Wishy that put Clinton in front 7-6.

Clinton put their lead at 10-6 with a three run eighth. The first run scored on a throwing error. The next two came in on a two-run double by Emerson Frostad.

The Rattlers tried to rally in the bottom of the eighth. They scored a pair of runs. Chen scored on a wild pitch and the other run scored on a throwing error. Wisconsin had the tying run at the plate with two out, but the runner at first was picked off to end the threat.

Clinton put the game away with five runs in the top of the ninth. All five runs scored after Grasley retired the first two batters of the inning. Coughlan and Fasano had RBI singles and Richardson iced the game with a three-run homer.

Wisconsin starts a twelve game road trip with a four game series in Kane County. Casey Abrams (3-2, 5.45ERA) will start the first game of the series on Monday night for Wisconsin. Derek Tharpe (1-2, 4.63ERA) is the scheduled starter for the Cougars. Game time is 6:00pm.
