Rains too much for Lugnuts and Devil Rays on Sunday
May 22, 2005 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Lansing Lugnuts News Release
Battle Creek, Mich.- After sitting around for two and a half hours in a rain delay, the Lansing Lugnuts(22-20) game with the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays(18-22) was ultimately postponed due to hazardous outfield playing conditions, ending the series on Sunday in Battle Creek. The Devil Rays won the series two games to one.
After several attempts to clear the water from the playing field, the umpires finally ruled that the water taken onto the field from the rains that passed through the area and also the water taken onto the field when the tarp was emptied was too much and might cause player injury, so the game was postponed.
It is not clear whether or not the game will be made up as the two clubs do not meet up for the remainder of the first half, although both teams do have an off day on June 8th and if it is pivotal to the first half playoff race in the Eastern Division, the game could possibly be made up.
Lansing's road trip will now continue towards Davenport, Iowa as the Lugnuts travel to John O'Donnell Stadium to take on the Swing of the Quad Cities in the first game of a four-game set on Monday. Game time is set for 8:00 EST and Kyle Yates will make the start for the Lugnuts.
