Kane County Cougars News Release

Fort Wayne, IN – The Kane County Cougars dropped the final game in Fort Wayne Sunday afternoon, a 9-3 defeat against the Wizards at Memorial Stadium. Chris Tritle's RBI single in the seventh and Chalon Tietje's two-out two-run homer in the ninth led the offense.

Cougars starter Mike Rogers allowed four runs in the third inning and didn't return to finish the fourth after rain interrupted the bottom of that fourth inning with a 45-minute delay. Clay Tichota relieved Rogers and gave up three tallies in the sixth for a 7-0 deficit.

Tritle got the Cougars on the board in the seventh. Myron Leslie doubled and scored on Tritle's single after Tietje's hit put men at the corners. Then with Raul Padron aboard in the ninth, Tietje smacked a home run off the pole down the left field line to make the score 9-3.

Rogers (1-3) took the loss after 3 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on six hits, walking none and fanning three. Mike Ekstrom (6-0) got the win for the Wizards after five frames of duty.

The Cougars (20-22) head back to Elfstrom Stadium to begin an eight-game homestand, with the first four against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Monday night's game is set for 6 CDT. Derek Tharpe (1-2, 5.36) goes to the mound for Kane County against left-hander Casey Abrams (3-2, 5.45) for the Rattlers.
