Luis Severino & Peter O'Brien Named to 2014 Futures Game

TAMPA, Fla. - Tampa Yankees RHP Luis Severino and former Tampa Yankee Peter O'Brien were named to the 2014 Futures Game. This season will mark the 16th annual All-Star Futures Game with the US taking on the World. The game will take place on Sunday, July 13th at Target Field in Minneapolis. Severino will represent the Dominican Republic on the World team and O'Brien will play on Team USA.

Severino was added to the Tampa Yankees on June 20th and has started one game so far. He threw four and two third innings with eight strikeouts and gave up five hits, one walk and three earned runs. Severino started 14 games for the Class-A Charleston RiverDogs. He maintained a 2.79 ERA in 67 and two third innings pitched. He had a 3-2 record with 70 strikeouts. The New York Yankees signed Severino as a non-drafted free agent on July 20, 2012.

O'Brien started the 2014 season with the Tampa Yankees and batted .321 (36-112) in 30 games. He hit nine doubles, one triple and ten homeruns with 19 RBI. He was promoted to the Double-A Trenton Thunder on May 9th. In Double-A, he has a .228 average (37-162) after 42 games. He's hit six doubles and 15 homeruns with 35 RBI. O'Brien was selected by the New York Yankees in the second round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Miami.
