Lugnuts to Become... Lansing Locos
March 18, 2019 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - The Lansing Lugnuts are joining Minor League Baseball's award-winning Copa de la Diversión ("Fun Cup") initiative, becoming the Lansing Locos for four games at Cooley Law School Stadium in 2019.
In 1996, the Lugnuts burst onto the scene in Lansing, becoming one of the first crazy
names in Minor League Baseball and spurring fans to cheer, "Let's Go Nuts!" In Spanish, that cheer translates to Vamos Locos! - the rallying cry of the Lansing Locos.
The Lugnuts partnered with a Lansing community-based Copa de la Diversión focus
group to develop an identity that would evoke pride, joy and laughter. Enter the potoo bird, indigenous to Central and South America, with the same large eyes as Luggie from the Lugnuts logo and the very definition of a Loco creature.
The Lansing Locos will have their own line of merchandise available at the Nuts & Bolts shop at Cooley Law School Stadium, online at lansinglugnuts.com, showcasing the team's blue jewel and light gold color combination.
The Lansing Locos will play their first of three straight games on Friday, May 3rd, at 7:05 p.m. vs. the Beloit Snappers on Education Night at Cooley Law School Stadium, with college booths and trade booths on the concourse, bilingual trivia and games, plus a Meet & Greet and autographs with the Locos' players!
Saturday, May 4th, is Heritage Night, beginning with a free youth baseball clinic with the Locos at 3 p.m., a Latin American softball game, and more leading up to the 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
Sunday is Cinco de Mayo, with a Street Festival from 2-6 p.m. taking over Michigan Avenue! Enjoy live music featuring Gabriel Burciaga & The Bad Boyz, food trucks, a jalapeño eating contest and more, leading up to a 6 p.m. first pitch, wrapping up the three-game series with Beloit. After the game, enjoy LAFCU Fireworks!
The Lansing Locos' finale will come on Latino Day on Sunday, August 18th, at 1:05 p.m. vs. the Dayton Dragons, with mariachi music, Play Catch on the Field before the game, Kids Run the Bases after the game, and more
