Inland Empire 66ers News Release
SAN BERNARDINO, CA - Inland Empire out-hit the Lake Elsinore Storm 11 to six but the Storm turned three walks into runs and rode Corey Luebke to a 5-3 win on Saturday night.
The Storm jumped out in front early, scoring three in the second after Logan Forsythe led off the inning with a triple to right center. 66ers starter Steven Johnson issued three walks and hit a batter in the inning.
Lance Zawadzki slugged a homer that went as high as it did far, just beyond the fence in right field off Johnson in the fifth inning to make it a 4-1 ballgame.
In the sixth, Eduardo Perez pounded a triple over the head of Yefri Carvajal in right, but decided he didn't want to stop at third. Perez kept running as Logan Forsythe threw high to catcher Luis Martinez as Perez came in to score, cutting the lead to 4-2.
Then, in the seventh, a wild pitch by Neil Johnson had Lara come in from third to score. On the play, Trayvon Robinson (who was 3-for-5) tried to score from second, but was tagged at the plate to keep the score 5-3.
The Inland Empire pitching staff continued their streak of double digit strikeouts in a game, finishing with 11. Johnson contributed 8 of them, along with 3 walks, 4 hits, 2 hit batters, and 4 runs allowed over 5 innings for the loss.
Inland Empire continues its four-game series with the Lake Elsinore Storm at 1:05 on Sunday. Marlon Arias (NR) makes his season debut for the 66ers. Cha Seung Baek will make a rehab start for the Storm. It's Family Day at the ballpark, get up to five Bullpen Box tickets for just $10.
