July 12, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
FC Cincinnati News Release

FC Cincinnati midfielder Luciano Acosta has been named a 2022 MLS All-Star, Major League Soccer announced today. Acosta, the MLS leader in assists (10) and total goal contributions (16), was a coach's selection for the 2022 MLS All-Star Roster by Adrian Heath, Head Coach of the All-Star team and Minnesota United FC, who will host the 2022 All-Star Game presented by Target on August 10.

Acosta's honor marks the first-ever MLS All-Star selection for FC Cincinnati in the club's history. It's also the first of Acosta's career, in his sixth year in MLS. Acosta will join the MLS All-Star team in Minnesota for a three-day event, from Aug. 8-10 at Allianz Field.

The Orange and Blue's captain has produced a goal and or an assist in all seven of FC Cincinnati's wins this season. His selection comes after he became the first player in club history to earn MLS Player of the Month honors when he was recognized league-wide in June for his four goal contributions in just 137 minutes. A 2018 MLS Best XI selection, Acosta has 37 goals and 55 assists in his MLS career.

Acosta is the all-time club leader with 20 assists in MLS competition, more than double any other player in FCC history. Since joining the Orange and Blue prior to the start of the 2021 season, his 50 regular season appearances for the club are more than any other player.

For the second consecutive season, the MLS All-Stars will take on the best of LIGA MX on August 10 at 8:30 p.m. ET at Allianz Filed in Minnesota and will be broadcast live on ESPN and Univision in the U.S., TSN and TVA Sports in Canada, on ESPN throughout Mexico and Latin America, and in more than 190 countries around the world. Tickets are available at MLSsoccer.com/All-Star or.

The roster was selected through a combination of fan, player, and media voting (12 players), designations by All-Star head coach Adrian Heath of host club Minnesota United FC (12 players), and a pair of selections by MLS Commissioner Don Garber.

Sixteen clubs are represented on this year's All-Star Game roster: Austin FC, FC Cincinnati, Columbus Crew, D.C. United, FC Dallas, Inter Miami CF, LA Galaxy, LAFC, Minnesota United FC, CF Montréal, Nashville SC, New England Revolution, New York Red Bulls, NYCFC, Philadelphia Union, and Seattle Sounders FC. The players have ties to 10 different countries: Argentina (four players), Canada (two), Ecuador (one), Germany (two), Greece (one), Jamaica (one), Mexico (three), Peru (two), Spain (two), and the United States (eight). Additionally, 14 of the 26 players will be making their MLS All-Star Game presented by Target debut.
