DeAndre Yedlin Named 2022 MLS All-Star

Inter Miami CF defender DeAndre Yedlin has been selected among the league's 26 best talents for the 2022 MLS All-Star Game presented by Target, becoming the club's second-ever All-Star. Yedlin was selected by MLS All-Star head coach Adrian Heath as a coach's pick for the match against the LIGA MX All-Stars.

"It's a great achievement, but it's not possible without my teammates here, so it's just as much their honor as it is mine," said Yedlin, who was surprised with the news of his selection by his teammates and coaching staff, along with a surprise visit from his family. "My fiancé, daughter, and best friend were [at the Inter Miami CF Training Center]. I didn't know they were going to show up at the training ground, so it was a nice little surprise to start the day."

The match is set for Wednesday, Aug. 10 at 8:30 p.m. ET at Allianz Field in St. Paul, Minnesota. It will air live on ESPN and Univision in the U.S., TSN and TVA Sports in Canada, on ESPN throughout Mexico and Latin America, and in more than 190 countries around the world.

Yedlin, 29, joined Inter Miami ahead of the 2022 MLS season and has quickly made a significant impact on the team. The fullback has tallied two assists thus far in 2022, tied for third on Inter Miami in the category dispute his defensive position. He has also contributed 15 key passes this season, most among Inter Miami defenders and tied for 13th among all MLS defenders.

Yedlin has also made his presence felt beyond on-field production, becoming a leader for Inter Miami. The defender has donned the captain's armband for Inter Miami on a number of occasions throughout the season. He has also led by example as an ever-present fixture in the team's lineup, appearing in all 18 MLS matches, starting 17 of them, playing 1,557 MLS minutes this season, second on Inter Miami.

"I think he's the best right-back in MLS. What DeAndre does is embed everything we want at this fútbol club; he's working really hard with us on the culture, values and identity of the team. He's brilliant in the locker room...He brings a little bit of a fun factor to the dressing room, he brings that spark of life," said head coach Phil Neville.

The selection marks Yedlin's third MLS All-Star appearance, having previously been chosen for the squad in both of his previous seasons in the league with the Seattle Sounders (2013 and 2014). His selection also makes Inter Miami one of 16 clubs represented on the MLS All-Star roster.

Yedlin becomes Inter Miami's second-ever All-Star in just its third season. In 2021, midfielder Rodolfo Pizarro became the club's first All-Star, participating in both the All-Star Game and the All-Star Skills Challenge.

The MLS roster for the All-Star game was determined via a combination of fan, player and media voting (12 players), designations by All-Star head coach Adrian Heath of host club Minnesota United FC (12 players), and a pair of selections by MLS Commissioner Don Garber.

The 2022 MLS All-Star Game is part of the groundbreaking partnership between MLS and LIGA MX that also consist of major events on the soccer calendar, including Leagues Cup and Campeones Cup, and is committed to providing continued competitive opportunities to strengthen both leagues.
