NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (November 13, 2003) The Charleston Lowgators of the National Basketball Development League have released four players who were vying for a spot on the opening night roster. Charleston is currently carrying 12 players and must get down to 10 by November 20.
Muhammed Lasege, Moses Malone Jr., Terrance Slater and James Smith were released on Thursday morning.
"They played extremely hard during training camp. They had great attitudes and played well, so it was a tough decision," head coach Doug Marty said.
Lasege, a center from Nigeria, played one year at Louisville before appearing in the United Pro Basketball League last season.. Guard Moses Malone Jr., the son of former NBA player Moses Malone, was drafted in the 10th round of the NBDL Draft last week out of South Carolina St. Terrance Slater, a forward from Western Michigan, was invited to training camp from the local tryouts. James Smith, a guard from Colorado St., was injured during a recent practice and was expected to miss significant time.
The Lowgators released point guard Victor Williams earlier this week after he suffered an injury.
Charleston will bring 12 players to Wisconsin to face the Badgers in an exhibition game on Monday, November 17.
The Lowgators open the NBDL season at home against Roanoke on November 28 at the North Charleston Coliseum at 7:30 p.m.
