Charleston Lowgators News Release

CHARLESTON, S.C. (February 20) Tierre Brown scored 26 points off the bench to lead the Charleston Lowgators over the Columbus Riverdragons 95-88 at the North Charleston Coliseum on Friday night. The contest ended the Riverdragons three-game win streak.

Trailing 68-65 at the end of the third quarter, the Lowgators (20-10) outscored the Riverdragons 30-20 in the final period thanks in-part to seven Columbus (10-20) turnovers that cost them 14 points. Brown had 11 points in the final frame with three assists.

“I like how we became more aggressive in the second-half. Tierre got us going in the third quarter and Karim (Shabazz) had fresh legs and played well inside,” coach Doug Marty said.

Columbus trailed 29-18 after the first quarter but regrouped in the second period to outscore Charleston 25-12 and led 43-41 at halftime. After a relatively even third period, the Riverdragons began to struggle.

Columbus coach Jeff Malone said, “The effort was there but we turned the ball over too many times in the fourth.”

Adam Harrington and Erron Maxey had 16 points each to lead the Riverdragons. Courtney James earned a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Sedric Webber, a former Lowgator, in his Riverdragon debut, scored 11 points off the bench in 20 minutes.

Malone said, “Webber is going to help us. We have a few days to practice and he’ll really help us down the stretch. I have watched him for the last few years and I’ve always liked him.”

Shabazz provided 16 points and 14 rebounds for Charleston and Carl English also added 16. Tierre Brown and Ime Udoka did not start the game due to disciplinary measures. Brown was late arriving to the arena and Udoka was tardy getting on the floor for warm-ups.

Charleston will travel to Fayetteville next Friday at 7:30 p.m. Columbus will host Huntsville on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m.
