Penigar is 8th Gatorade Callup, Second in Three Days

GREENVILLE, S.C., February 20 – Asheville Altitude forward Desmond Penigar has signed a 10-day contract with the Orlando Magic, making him the eighth NBDL-to-NBA "Gatorade Callup" of the season for the National Basketball Development League.

Since the NBDL began competition in November 2001, 22 players have received 30 "Gatorade Callups" to play for NBA teams. Penigar is the fifth all-time callup for Asheville and the second this week. Mamadou N'diaye signed a 10-day contract with the Atlanta Hawks Wednesday.

Penigar played in and started 26 games for the Altitude, averaging 30.8 minutes, a league-leading 20.0 points and 7.3 rebounds, which is tied for fifth in the league. He recorded a single-game high of 35 points at Huntsville on Dec. 12 and has scored 30 points or more in four games and 20 points or more 12 times. He has recorded four double-doubles.
