Charleston Lowgators News Release

CHARLESTON, S.C. (December 5) Rolan Roberts and Alpha Bangura scored 19 points each to lead the Charleston Lowgators over the Asheville Altitude 100-93 at the North Charleston Coliseum on Friday night. The win marked the second consecutive victory over the Altitude in as many games.

Like the previous contest between the two teams on Tuesday in Asheville, the Lowgators, leading by double-digits, fought off an Altitude fourth quarter comeback. Down by 14 to start the final period, the Altitude marched back within three with under two minutes remaining in the contest. Charleston hung on down the stretch by knocking down free-throws and playing solid defense.

"We played great defense in the first half allowing only 39 points but we let up a bit in the second half. We also are going to have to learn how to maintain a late lead. Asheville is a good team and they were able to get back in the game," said Lowgators head coach Doug Marty.

The Lowgators broke a 27-27 tie in the second quarter with an 18-10 run and never looked back. Charleston outscored Asheville 26 to 19 in the period and led 47-39 at intermission. Charleston extended the lead to as many as 14 a couple of times but were not able to put the Altitude away.

Asheville head coach Joey Meyer said, "They got a lot of second chances and beat us on the boards. We did do a nice job in the second half staying in it and coming back in the fourth quarter."

Altitude forward Desmond Penigar led all scorers with 31 points shooting 12 of 16 from the field. Lavor Postell added 17 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds for the Altitude.

Along with Roberts and Bangura, Ime Udoka provided 15 points for the Lowgators and grabbed 9 rebounds.

Charleston hosts Columbus on Sunday at 5 p.m. Asheville travels to Roanoke Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
