Charleston Lowgators News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (February 21) – The North Charleston Lowgators defeated the Greenville Groove 102-95 on Friday night at the North Charleston Coliseum. Tierre Brown had 31 points to lead five players in double digits.

Down by four at the end of the first quarter, the Lowgators outscored the Groove 30-17 in the second period and shot just under 70% in the first half. North Charleston led by as many as 17 but Greenville went on a 25-10 run in the fourth quarter to cut their deficit to one. The Lowgators hit 27 of 30 free-throws and were perfect from the line down the stretch to hold off the Groove.

"This run we're on right now is very timely. With eleven games to go and the standings so close, this team is really playing well. At the same time you have to be careful. A team can go from second to seventh with a few losses in a row, "said head coach Doug Marty said.

Damone Brown added 18 points for the Lowgators (21-18), while Donald Hand recorded 18 to lead the Groove (16-20).

Groove assistant coach Stephanie Ready said, "We made a run in the fourth quarter but it was not enough. Things could have happened differently with a made free-throw here or a made bucket there."

The Lowgators have won four straight and seven home games in row. They host Columbus on Sunday at 4 p.m. The Groove are at home on Saturday night.
