Benjamin Returns to North Charleston

GREENVILLE, S.C. (February 21, 2003) - Guard Corey Benjamin has rejoined the North Charleston Lowgators of the National Basketball Development League after completing two 10-day contracts with the Atlanta Hawks, according to an announcement by NBDL Executive Director Karl Hicks and Lowgators head coach Doug Marty. North Charleston also released guard Norm Richardson.

Benjamin, who played collegiately at Oregon State ('00), played in nine games (no starts) for the Hawks and averaged 16.9 minutes, 4.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. His top scoring game was Jan. 14 when he scored 14 points against Sacramento.

Benjamin returns as the NBDL's second-leading scorer at 18.0 points through 26 games. He also averaged 30.6 minutes, 4.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists before being called up to the NBA. He is set to be in uniform for North Charleston tonight when the Lowgators play host to the Greenville Groove and will wear jersey number 25.

Richardson averaged 17.4 minutes, 6.4 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists through eight games (no starts) with the Lowgators. North Charleston acquired him on Jan. 28.
