Revelers and Dazzle Cap Busy Day
February 21, 2003 - NBA G League (G League) News Release
GREENVILLE, S.C. (February 21, 2003) - The Mobile Revelers and Roanoke Dazzle topped off a whirlwind day of player movement in the National Basketball Development League by making moves to shore up the guard position as each team readies for the stretch run of the National Basketball Development League season.
The Revelers acquired guard Aaron Owens and released guards Jeremy Veal and Joe Marshall. Owens is expected to join the team in Greenville in time for Saturday's game and will wear jersey number 13. Mobile will add another player early next week. The Dazzle acquired guard Altron Jackson and released guard Larry Reid.
The moves by Roanoke and Mobile closed a day when four of the NBDL's eight teams made player transactions and Huntsville guard Brandon Williams became the league's ninth NBA callup this season.
Guard Corey Benjamin returned to North Charleston after completing a pair of 10-day assignments with the Atlanta Hawks, forcing the release of guard Norm Richardson. Huntsville added guard Curtis Staples and center Ike Nwankwo to their roster. Staples fills the spot vacated by Williams. Nwankwo replaces center Giannis Giannoulis and will join the team Tuesday in Columbus.
At 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds, Owens played collegiately at Riverside Community College and Fort Hayes State before finishing his career at Henderson State ('99). He played briefly in the IBA and internationally in Israel with Maccabi Karmiel where he averaged 17.7 points and 2.6 rebounds in seven games. He was drafted by the Columbus Riverdragons in the 13th round (102nd overall) in the 2002 NBDL Draft and was released in training camp.
Jackson, at 6-6 and 192 pounds, played his college basketball at South Florida ('02). He averaged 18.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game as a senior. Jackson led CUSA in scoring as a senior, was a first-team all-conference selection and led the nation in sixth-man scoring. His most recent playing experience came in Hungary with Klima-Vill Kaposvar SE.
